Class Description:

Career Planning for Writers

Do you know where your writing career is going?

You need to know where you’re going in order to get there.

There’s a lot to learn to get your career as an author off the ground.  Most of us focus on learning the craft and on writing.  And as soon as an author completes a novel and polishes it, the search begins to find an agent and to make that first sale.  Too often, writers, like other professionals, go about pursuing their careers without giving much time or attention to planning their careers in advance.  A career just happens.  Or, sometimes, it doesn’t happen.

Today, more options are open to writers than ever before.  In the past, a romance writer could let her (or his) career follow the one or two paths available without much planning, but today writers need to make many choices that will affect their careers.  And, with the industry changing rapidly almost from day to day, there is a need for continual course corrections.  How do you correct your course if you don’t know where you’re going?

Course Description:  Join R. Ann Siracusa, multi-published novelist and long-range planning expert, as she walks writers through the process of preparing a Career Plan.  A Career Plan is all about what an author wants out of writing.  Participants will assess where they are in their careers, set goals, and develop action plans to assist in making informed decisions that lead them in the direction they want to go with their careers.

Instructor Bio:

R. Ann Siracusa retired from a thirty-seven year career as an architect and urban planner specializing in long-range land use and policy planning, and she is well published in those professional fields.  She is involved in many activities, but her two favorite are traveling the world and writing fiction.  This talented author combines those passions into novels which transport readers to exotic settings, immerse them in romance, intrigue, and foreign cultures, and make them laugh.
