We’ve taken feedback from last year’s contest into consideration and made adjustments to our judging and timeline.
PUBLISHED: You will have from June 1 – September 1 to read and judge 2 books (word length of each varies from novella (40k) to historical novel (90k)). Because these books have already been published, we will require less detailed scoring.
UN-PUBLISHED: You will have from July 1 – August 22 to read and judge 3 twenty-five page entries. Scoring will be more detailed.
All categories accept worldwide settings unless otherwise indicated. In a case where we didn’t receive enough entries into a category, a work you receive may be from a similar/adjacent category (i.e.: Paranormal or Time-Travel, but in your time period):
- AMR Ancient/Medieval/Renaissance
Time period: BC – 1600 - REV Revolution/Enlightenment
Time period: 1600 – 1800 - CWW Colonial/Western/Civil War
Setting: North America
Time period: 1600 – 1865 - GVI Georgian/Victorian
Time period: 1714 – 1901 - REG Regency
Time period: 1800 – 1830 - PVW Post-Victorian/World Wars/Modern
Time period: 1901 – 1980s - TTP Time Travel/Historical Paranormal/Historical Fantasy(Romantasy)*
Time period: prehistory through 1980
*Please note: For the Historical Fantasy (aka Romantasy) entries there MUST BE a historical setting. Not a fictional setting.
