Heidie Rosado Nieves
Heidie first shared with us that she is from Puerto Rico. She is new to the publishing arena. She never studied writing. She simply decided to do it and self-taught her way to the first publication, based on true life.
I reached out to Heidie with a few questions:
Q: Do you write full-time or part-time?
I write part-time however I have anchored my intentions to write full time this year.
Q: What’s the hardest part of writing?
Thinking in English, writing in Spanish. Thinking in Spanish, writing Spanish. Jajajaja
I’ve got a big mix going on with my Spanglish and it’s challenging at times to get my thoughts clear.
Another challenge is to focus. I have a creative mind and I can kind of loose myself in ideas and thoughts.
Q: What’s your favorite historical movie?
Game of Thrones. I have a fascination with this time. The conquest, the myths, rituals and freedom specifically Dorne which was self-ruled.
I love fantasy and mythical creatures. Like the elvens in lord of the rings. Maléfica, etc.
Love movies like The Gladiator (conquerors, slaves and kingdoms) and Somewhere in Time (time travel) and Cloud Atlas.
Q: Who’s your favorite historical figure?
Theodora (although I have not read much about her)
Mother Teresa (more modern historical figure).
Q: If you could meet anyone in history, who would it be?
Theodora, Empress of Byzantium
Q: If you could time travel, what era would you visit?
Before conquest.
Q: What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever received?
Write from experience, write from the heart and go with your gut instinct.
Q: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
As a child I wanted to be a journalist and was fascinated by typewriters, although I had a secret love with my journal/diary.
Q: Are there specific books or authors who have influenced you as a writer?
I loved reading Danielle Steel, Isabela Allende and Paulo Cohelo.
However, influenced me? I think Nicholas Spark.
I write as if I were watching the movie.
Q: Give us a brief rundown of your process. Are you a plotter, a pantser, or somewhere in the middle?
I have only written one novel and am in the process of my second (it’s a trilogy)
For now, I’m all over. Ideas come to mind, and I write them down. I have also plotted the story so I can have a frame of work as to how the story goes and at the same time, I flow with creativity of whatever shows up when it shows up. I follow my hunch and trust it will take me somewhere.
What I do know is that I act out the scene. Literally, I go through the scene as if it were a movie and then I write. Sometimes I see a location and see the scene. So, I incorporate it. If there is a location involved I will literally travel there to get a feel of it.
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your journey to publication?
Although it took me 20 years to release this story inspired in true events, I dedicated the last two years to delve myself in the story.
I was boxed in my corporate career and wrote on professional topics mostly. My first book was a self-help book which used the metamorphosis of the butterfly to overcome job loss.
Q: Tell us about your latest release and what’s coming next for you.
I am now dedicated to promoting my first novel while I finish the second book of the trilogy.
